USB device stack (next) in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
USB device stack (next)
Notes on this component
The rewritten USB device stack that replaces the original. Same CVE family — control transfers and descriptor handling — against newer code. A build enables one stack or the other, so normally only one of these two rows matches. Advisories filed against the rewritten stack: CVE-2026-12052 (the CDC NCM control handler writes out of bounds when the host asks for fewer bytes than the response holds, fixed in 4.4.2), CVE-2026-12051 (the DFU download handler dereferences null, fixed in 4.4.2) and CVE-2026-10647 (a failed transmit enqueue deadlocks the CDC-NCM class, fixed in 4.3.1 and 4.4.2). The rewrite inherited the family and not the bugs: these are new findings in new code, all three from 2026, where the original stack's run is from 2021 and 2023.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_USB_DEVICE_STACK_NEXT is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

CRA notes
- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
