Trusted Firmware-M in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
Trusted Firmware-M
Notes on this component
Trusted Firmware-M, the reference secure-world firmware for Cortex-M chips: it holds keys and runs the device's trusted services, so a flaw in it breaks the device's root of trust. Flaws are published as security advisories at trustedfirmware-m.readthedocs.io and as CVEs under trustedfirmware:trusted_firmware-m, which NVD files as an operating-system CPE. The most serious filed against it are CVE-2025-53022 (the firmware-update partition does not check the TLV length field for dependent components against the buffer it allocates, so a crafted update image overwrites the stack; before 2.1.3 and 2.2.x before 2.2.1), CVE-2021-43619 (a psa_fwu_write caller from either the secure or the non-secure world overwrites stack memory; 1.4.0 and 1.4.1) and CVE-2023-51712 (the logging subsystem does not verify its arguments, which lets a caller read sensitive data; through 2.0.0).
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:generic/trustedfirmware/trusted-firmware-m@{version}cpe:2.3:o:trustedfirmware:trusted_firmware-m:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is read from the upstream release tag.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
