PSA Crypto API in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
PSA Crypto API
Notes on this component
The PSA Crypto API layer. It is a front end: the implementation behind it is Mbed TLS or TF-M, so the CVE family that matters is the provider's (see the mbedtls row) plus key-handle and key-store handling in the glue. The one Zephyr advisory filed against its own PSA implementation code is CVE-2026-15890: the default nonce provider of the secure_storage subsystem, which implements PSA Internal Trusted Storage, had no lock, so two threads could get the same AEAD nonce; fixed in 4.3.2 and 4.4.2. Nothing has been filed against the PSA Crypto glue itself as of 10 October 2026. Recorded separately because its presence tells you crypto is in the image even when the provider is hard to see.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_PSA_CRYPTO is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

CRA notes
- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
