BSD sockets in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
BSD sockets
Notes on this component
The BSD sockets API over Zephyr's IP stack. CVE family is argument and buffer handling at the socket layer, including the userspace/syscall boundary when CONFIG_USERSPACE is on. Advisories filed against the sockets layer include CVE-2026-12234 (a double fetch across the syscall boundary in sendmsg and recvmsg overflows the kernel heap, fixed in 4.4.2), CVE-2026-10643 (the ancillary-data path in recvmsg checks the control-buffer capacity against too small a size and writes past the heap allocation, fixed in 4.5.0) and CVE-2026-8718 (the DTLS peer connection-ID getter ignores the caller's buffer size and writes beyond it, fixed in 4.4.1). TLS and DTLS options run through this same layer, which is where CVE-2026-15924, CVE-2026-5066 and CVE-2026-1677 landed; the last of those allowed a TLS 1.2 connection on a socket configured for TLS 1.3.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_NET_SOCKETS is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
