IPv6 in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
IPv6
Notes on this component
IPv6 in Zephyr's IP stack. CVE family is extension-header chains, fragment reassembly and neighbour discovery — historically the richest source of remote Zephyr network CVEs. Advisories filed against IPv6 include CVE-2026-12633 (an unauthenticated Router Advertisement drives an out-of-bounds write through 6LoWPAN context-option handling, fixed in 4.4.2), CVE-2026-13351 (maliciously fragmented packets stop the stack receiving anything further, affecting 4.3 and earlier) and CVE-2026-7656 (an operator-precedence mistake bypasses hop-limit and source-address validation, affecting 4.4.0 and earlier). Neighbour discovery has a run of its own: CVE-2026-15893, CVE-2026-14697, CVE-2026-10686 and CVE-2026-10640. The richest-source sentence above is the advisory record, not an estimate.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_NET_IPV6 is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

CRA notes
- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
