Oberon PSA Crypto in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
Oberon PSA Crypto
Notes on this component
Oberon Microsystems' PSA Crypto reference implementation, packaged by Nordic as its own repository (`repo-path: sdk-oberon-psa-crypto`) rather than a fork of an independently-named public project — a GitHub search finds no `oberon-psa-crypto` outside the `nrfconnect` org, so this is an NCS-only name, not a `match: {}` fork row. It is the software fallback behind `CONFIG_PSA_CRYPTO_DRIVER_OBERON` when the CryptoCell hardware accelerator is not used or not present (nRF54L parts). Nordic publishes no SBOM or machine-readable advisory feed for it; ask Nordic Semiconductor, through the nRF Connect SDK support channel, for its component list. Oberon itself does publish numbered advisories, and three are filed against this library: CVE-2026-16459 (a padding-oracle timing attack recovers plaintexts from RSA PKCS#1 v1.5 decryption; 1.0.0 up to 2.1.1), CVE-2025-7383 (the same attack against AES-CBC PKCS#7 decryption; 1.0.0 up to 1.5.1) and CVE-2025-9071 (RSA-OAEP padding uses an all-zero seed instead of the generated random bytes, so encryption is deterministic and repeated messages are recognisable; 1.0.0 to 1.5.1, fixed by rsa_oaep_padding.patch for release 1.5.1, reported by Nordic). No CPE exists for it, so none of the three can be matched by CPE. Oberon's sister library ocrypto carries two more, CVE-2026-16458 and CVE-2025-7071, which are a separate component and not this row.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:github/nrfconnect/sdk-oberon-psa-crypto@{version}
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is read from the upstream release tag.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
