Mbed TLS in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
Mbed TLS
Notes on this component
A SECOND copy of Mbed TLS, pinned to the 3.6 long-term-support branch because Trusted Firmware-M needs it. A build that enables TF-M therefore ships two Mbed TLS versions at once, and an advisory affects each on its own schedule. Checking only the `mbedtls` module leaves the 3.6 copy unchecked, which is exactly the mistake this row exists to prevent. On the 3.6 branch the current set of fixes lands in 3.6.6: CVE-2026-34877 (a modified serialized SSL session or context induces memory corruption and can reach arbitrary code execution; 2.19.0 through 3.6.5), CVE-2026-34876 (an oversized tag_len passed to the multipart CCM API makes mbedtls_ccm_finish() read adjacent CCM context data; 3.1.0 through 3.6.5) and CVE-2026-25833 (a buffer overflow in x509_inet_pton_ipv6(); 3.5.0 through 3.6.5). A build pinned to 3.6.5 or earlier carries all three.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:github/Mbed-TLS/mbedtls@{version}cpe:2.3:a:arm:mbed_tls:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is read from the upstream release tag.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
