Logging in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
Logging
Notes on this component
The logging subsystem. CVE family is format-string and argument handling in the deferred logging path. Its other relevance is disclosure: logs on a shipped device can leak keys and internal state over whatever backend is enabled. Both advisories filed against logging are at the userspace boundary: CVE-2026-12364 (the log-message creation syscall does not validate the user-space pointer it is given, disclosing kernel memory and able to deny service, fixed in 4.4.2) and CVE-2026-10682 (an out-of-bounds write in the log-filter syscall verifier, reachable from userspace, fixed in 4.3.1 and 4.4.2). Both need CONFIG_USERSPACE to be reachable. The disclosure risk described above needs nothing switched on at all.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_LOG is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

CRA notes
- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
