nRF Modem library (libmodem) in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
nRF Modem library (libmodem)
Notes on this component
An nRF Connect SDK addition on top of plain Zephyr: the library that lets the application processor of an nRF91 Series part use its cellular modem, in a group (`groups: [libmodem]`) the manifest excludes by default. Nordic's nrfxlib documents the Modem library as "a binary library" (`nrf_modem/README.rst` in nrfxlib), so it is flagged a binary blob: what is inside it cannot be read from the source tree. The libmodem repository itself is not publicly readable, so its contents were not inspected for this row; the binary flag rests on that nrfxlib page. Ask Nordic Semiconductor, through the nRF Connect SDK support channel, for the component list and the product-security notices of this library. The upstream states no CPE, so none is written: no known identifier.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:github/nrfconnect/libmodem@{version}
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is pinned to the upstream commit your build uses.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
