hostap (wpa_supplicant and hostapd) in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes

What it is
hostap (wpa_supplicant and hostapd)
Notes on this component
hostap, the WPA supplicant and hostapd code Zephyr uses for Wi-Fi security. Upstream is w1.fi and not on GitHub, so Zephyr's fork is the only place a manifest's commit can be found and no release number is given. Flaws are published on the w1.fi security page and filed in NVD under w1.fi:wpa_supplicant and w1.fi:hostapd; this row sets the first without a version. The most serious are CVE-2022-23303 and CVE-2022-23304 (cache-access timing side channels in the SAE and EAP-pwd implementations let an attacker recover the password; both before 2.10, and both are incomplete-fix follow-ups to CVE-2019-9494 and CVE-2019-9495), CVE-2023-52160 (a PEAP authentication bypass in wpa_supplicant through 2.10, when the client is configured not to verify the network's TLS certificate in phase 1) and, on the hostapd side, CVE-2026-58374 (a missing bounds check on a Wi-Fi 7 Multi-Link association request lets anyone in radio range send a crafted management frame; 2.11 and earlier, fixed in 2.12). Because this row pins a commit and not a release, which of these a build carries has to be read from that commit.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:github/zephyrproject-rtos/hostap@{version}cpe:2.3:a:w1.fi:wpa_supplicant:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is pinned to the upstream commit your build uses.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
