File system in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
File system
Notes on this component
Zephyr's file-system abstraction layer. On its own it is thin; the risk sits in the back end that is enabled with it (the fatfs or littlefs rows) and in path handling at the VFS layer. ext2 and the Dhara flash-translation-layer disk driver have no backend row of their own yet (unlike fatfs/littlefs), so their advisories are cross-referenced here. The advisories cross-referenced here, following the backends named above: CVE-2026-10645 (ext2 directory entries are not structurally validated, giving an out-of-bounds read and a directory walk that makes no progress, affecting 4.4 and earlier, no fix version recorded), CVE-2026-13215 and CVE-2026-13478 (a crafted ext2 superblock drives an out-of-bounds write and read, both fixed in 4.4.2), CVE-2026-7007 (a divide by zero on ext2 mount, fixed in 4.4.2), CVE-2026-10659 (a flash read error during journal resume leaves the Dhara translation-layer disk driver dereferencing null, fixed in 4.4.2) and CVE-2023-4260 (an off-by-one overflow in the file-system layer itself, affecting 3.4.0 and earlier). All the ext2 ones need a filesystem image the device did not write.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
It is compiled into the kernel image when CONFIG_FILE_SYSTEM is y. It does not appear in west spdx output; the only trace is the .config file in your build directory.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:o:zephyrproject:zephyr:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the same as your Zephyr version.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.

CRA notes
- List this component in your SBOM. Annex I, Part II (1):
- Ship the version with no known exploitable vulnerabilities at release. Annex I, Part I (2(a)):
- An SBOM without this subsystem under-reports what is in the image. Annex I, Part II (1):
