ACPICA in Zephyr firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
ACPICA
Notes on this component
The ACPI Component Architecture reference implementation, built into Zephyr on x86 boards that read ACPI tables — that is, it parses firmware-supplied tables, which is its attack surface. No advisory found against ACPICA as its own product as of 10 October 2026: the repository's GitHub security advisories list is empty and NVD has no CPE for ACPICA. Its flaws are instead filed against whichever operating system embeds it: all 28 NVD records whose description names ACPICA are Linux kernel entries carrying an ACPICA commit id, among them CVE-2025-38386 (after a firmware update added a method parameter and left a caller unchanged, ACPICA evaluated the method with arguments missing and used memory after free) and CVE-2025-38345 (a malicious ACPI table causes early termination and leaks the operand cache in dswstate.c). So a build that embeds ACPICA is checked by reading those Linux entries against the commit it pins, not by looking for an ACPICA CPE.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Zephyr lists a west module by its west name, with no PURL or CPE. Vulnerability feeds cannot find it from that listing alone, which is why the SBOM check adds the identifiers below.
The identifiers we assign
pkg:github/open-acpica/acpica@{version}
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is pinned to the upstream commit your build uses.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
