util-linux-libuuid in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
util-linux-libuuid
Notes on this component
libuuid is the small library inside the util-linux source tree that generates and parses UUIDs for other programs on the device. It is built from the util-linux source, so its CVEs are filed against util-linux as a whole rather than against a separate libuuid project. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT gives util-linux with no vendor, so a lookup matches on that product name alone and returns every util-linux finding, not only the ones that touch this library.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:util-linux:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called util-linux, including unrelated ones.
