u-boot-imx in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
u-boot-imx
Notes on this component
This is NXP's i.MX branch of the U-Boot boot loader, the first stage that initialises the board, reads the kernel and device tree and starts Linux on i.MX devices. The U-Boot project's security page asks for reports by email to its mailing list and says the project cannot assign CVE identifiers itself. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT lists nxp:uboot_secondary_program_loader and denx:u-boot, and the CPE is built from the first; the second is the name upstream U-Boot findings are filed under, so check both.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:nxp:uboot_secondary_program_loader:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
