thrift in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
thrift
Notes on this component
Apache Thrift is a framework for defining services in an interface file and generating client and server code in many languages, so devices use it for remote calls between components. The server side reads requests from the network, which makes the transport and protocol layers the attack surface. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is apache:thrift, so a lookup uses both the vendor and the product name.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:apache:thrift:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
