tcpdump in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
tcpdump
Notes on this component
tcpdump is a command-line packet analyzer that uses the libpcap capture library. The project site points to a dedicated page for reporting a security issue. The recipe sets the single pair tcpdump:tcpdump, the name NVD uses; libpcap is a separate component with its own entry.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:tcpdump:tcpdump:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
