sqlite3 in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
sqlite3
Notes on this component
SQLite is an embedded SQL database engine that runs inside the calling program and reads a database from a single file. The project's security page says SQLite should never crash or corrupt memory on malformed SQL or a malformed database file, treats any such failure as a serious bug, and warns about attacks that alter a local database file. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT gives the product name sqlite with no vendor, so the CPE built from it has a wildcard vendor and a lookup has to match on the product name alone.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:sqlite:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called sqlite, including unrelated ones.
