snappy in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
snappy
Notes on this component
Snappy is a compression library that trades ratio for speed, running about an order of magnitude faster than the fastest zlib mode at the cost of files 20 to 100 percent larger. Its README says the decompressor is designed not to crash on corrupted or malicious input. The recipe sets google:snappy.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:google:snappy:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
