shadow in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
shadow
Notes on this component
The shadow suite supplies account-management programs such as useradd, usermod, groupadd and pwck, which manage the password and group files. The repository carries a SECURITY.md file that sets out how to report an issue. The recipe lists debian:shadow and shadow_project:shadow, so a lookup should try both vendors.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:debian:shadow:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
