rsyslog in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
rsyslog
Notes on this component
rsyslog collects, transforms and routes log events from many sources to destinations such as files, Elasticsearch, Kafka and HTTP endpoints. The project site has a security advisories section, which is the first place to read about a rsyslog issue. The recipe sets rsyslog:rsyslog; its network-logging library librelp is a separate component with its own pair.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:rsyslog:rsyslog:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
