qemu-xilinx-system-native in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
qemu-xilinx-system-native
Notes on this component
qemu-xilinx-system-native is the system-emulation part of the Xilinx build of QEMU, built for the build host to boot and test target images. It is a -native recipe, which is how Yocto names a tool built for the build machine instead of the device. It runs on the build host while the image is being built and is not part of the image that ships on the device, so a CVE against it concerns the machine that built the firmware rather than the firmware itself; it is still worth knowing about, and it is not a device vulnerability. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is qemu with no vendor, so a lookup matches on the product name qemu alone.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:qemu:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called qemu, including unrelated ones.
