python3-pyopenssl in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-pyopenssl
Notes on this component
pyOpenSSL is a thin Python wrapper around a subset of the OpenSSL library, used for TLS connections and certificates. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT lists four vendor and product pairs, among them pyca:pyopenssl and pyopenssl_project:pyopenssl, so a search on one vendor can miss records filed under another.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:jean-paul_calderone:pyopenssl:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
