python3-ply in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-ply
Notes on this component
python3-ply is PLY, a Python implementation of the lex and yacc parsing tools used to build parsers for languages and file formats. It runs inside the Python programs that import it, and its exposure is the input those parsers read. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is dabeaz ply, so a lookup uses vendor dabeaz and product ply.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:dabeaz:ply:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
