python3-mako in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-mako
Notes on this component
python3-mako is Mako, a Python template engine that turns text templates into output by running embedded Python. Templates are code, so the exposure is any template text that comes from outside the program, which should never be treated as trusted. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is makotemplates mako, so a lookup uses vendor makotemplates and product mako.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:makotemplates:mako:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
