python3-ldap in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-ldap
Notes on this component
python3-ldap is python-ldap, the Python binding to the OpenLDAP client library, used to look up users and groups in a directory server. It runs inside the Python programs that import it and handles the replies of the directory server over the network, and a CVE query for it is usually about LDAP filter handling. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is python-ldap with no vendor, so a lookup matches on the product name python-ldap alone.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:python-ldap:python-ldap:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
