python3-idna in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-idna
Notes on this component
idna is the Python library for Internationalized Domain Names in Applications (IDNA): it turns domain names written in non-Latin scripts into the ASCII form used on the network, and is pulled in by HTTP libraries. It works on names that can come from outside. The recipe lists kjd:idna and kjd:internationalized_domain_names_in_applications as CVE_PRODUCT names, and the CPE is built from the first.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:kjd:idna:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
