python3-grpcio in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-grpcio
Notes on this component
python3-grpcio is the Python package for gRPC, the remote procedure call framework that carries requests over HTTP/2. A Python program that uses it often listens on a network port or calls out to one, so it is a network-facing component, and a finding in the gRPC core affects it. The recipe sets the CVE_PRODUCT vendor grpc and product grpc, which the sibling python3-grpcio-tools recipe shares, so a lookup returns findings for the gRPC project as a whole.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:grpc:grpc:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
