python3-ecdsa in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-ecdsa
Notes on this component
python-ecdsa is a pure-Python library for ECDSA signatures and elliptic-curve key exchange, used by Python code on a device that signs or verifies. Being pure Python, it is not constant-time, which is the usual concern for such code. The recipe lists python-ecdsa_project:python-ecdsa and tlsfuzzer:ecdsa as CVE_PRODUCT names, and the CPE is built from the first, so check both.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:python-ecdsa_project:python-ecdsa:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
