python3-django in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-django
Notes on this component
Django is a Python web framework, so a firmware image carries it when a device serves a web interface built on it. The project's news feed carries security posts from the Django Security Team, including one on how security issues are reported. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT gives the product name django with no vendor, so the CPE built from it has a wildcard vendor and a lookup has to match on the product name alone.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:django:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called django, including unrelated ones.
