python3-cryptography in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-cryptography
Notes on this component
The cryptography package gives Python programs cryptographic algorithms and recipes. Reporters are asked to use its GitHub security advisory page, and the project times releases around OpenSSL updates because its published packages statically link OpenSSL. The recipe sets the vendor "cryptography.io" with product "cryptography"; records for OpenSSL itself are filed under openssl:openssl.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:cryptography.io:cryptography:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
