python3-certifi in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-certifi
Notes on this component
certifi is the Python package that carries Mozilla's bundle of trusted root certificates, which Python programs on the device read to decide whether to trust a server's TLS certificate. What it holds is data, so a flaw is usually about which roots it trusts. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is certifi:certifi, so a lookup uses both names.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:certifi:certifi:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
