python3-cbor2 in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-cbor2
Notes on this component
python3-cbor2 is a Python library that encodes and decodes CBOR, a compact binary data format common in IoT messaging. Its attack surface is the CBOR data it decodes, so it matters when a Python program on the device decodes messages from a network or a peer. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is agronholm cbor2, so a lookup uses vendor agronholm and product cbor2.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:agronholm:cbor2:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
