python3-babel in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
python3-babel
Notes on this component
python3-babel is Babel, the Python library for internationalisation: it formats dates, numbers and currencies for a locale and works with message catalogs. It runs inside the Python programs that import it, and its exposure is the locale and catalog data those programs pass in. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is pocoo babel, so a lookup uses vendor pocoo and product babel.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:pocoo:babel:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
