ovmf in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
ovmf
Notes on this component
OVMF is the open UEFI firmware for virtual machines, built from the EDK II source; a guest runs it before its boot loader and it carries the Secure Boot variable and signature checks. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is edk2 with no vendor, so findings are filed against EDK II as a whole and many of them concern firmware code that OVMF does not include; a lookup has to check each against the features this build enables.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:tianocore:edk2:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
