microsoft-gsl in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
microsoft-gsl
Notes on this component
microsoft-gsl is the Microsoft implementation of the C++ Core Guidelines Support Library, a header-only set of types such as span and not_null. It has no code of its own at run time beyond what is compiled into the programs that use it, so a finding concerns those programs rather than a separate component. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is microsoft gsl, so a lookup uses vendor microsoft and product gsl.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:microsoft:gsl:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
