kernel-module-emlog in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
kernel-module-emlog
Notes on this component
emlog (the EMbedded-system LOG device) is a Linux kernel module that provides a character device acting like a named pipe with a finite, circular buffer, so the oldest data is dropped as new data arrives. Being a kernel module, it runs with kernel privileges. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is nicupavel:emlog, so a lookup uses the vendor nicupavel and the product emlog.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:nicupavel:emlog:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
