ixgbe in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
ixgbe
Notes on this component
ixgbe is the Linux driver for Intel 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters; this recipe builds it as a separate kernel module, so it runs inside the kernel and handles every packet the card receives. The kernel's documentation describes the driver and its parameters. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is linux:linux_kernel_ixgbe, which may not match findings filed against the kernel's built-in copy of the same driver, so check those under linux:linux_kernel as well.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:linux:linux_kernel_ixgbe:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
