glibc-scripts in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
glibc-scripts
Notes on this component
glibc-scripts is one of the packages the Yocto build splits out of the GNU C Library: it puts the helper scripts that ship with glibc's source on the device. It is not a separate upstream; CVEs are filed against glibc itself, so a lookup uses glibc with no vendor and a hit applies only if the flaw lies in one of those scripts. The glibc page lists a private way to report security issues to the maintainers.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:glibc:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called glibc, including unrelated ones.
