git in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
git
Notes on this component
Git is a distributed version control system designed to handle projects of any size. The recipe sets git-scm:git, and the vendor name is git-scm, not git, which trips up a search by the plain project name.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:git-scm:git:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
