ghostscript in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
ghostscript
Notes on this component
Ghostscript is Artifex's interpreter for PostScript and PDF, used on devices that print, preview or convert documents. Its security page sets out how Artifex receives vulnerability reports and informs customers, and the interpreter works on files that usually come from outside the device. The recipe lists ghostscript and gpl_ghostscript as CVE_PRODUCT names with no vendor, and the CPE is built from the first.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:*:ghostscript:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: not recorded. The recipe names the product but not who publishes it, and we do not guess vendors. A * vendor matches records for any product called ghostscript, including unrelated ones.
