ed in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
ed
Notes on this component
ed is the classic GNU line editor. It reads commands from a terminal or a script and has no network or daemon role, so it matters on a device only where a shell or script on the device calls it. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is gnu ed, so a lookup uses vendor gnu and product ed.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:gnu:ed:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
