dropbear in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
dropbear
Notes on this component
Dropbear is a small SSH server and client aimed at embedded systems such as wireless routers, and can be compiled down to about 110 kB. Its project page says nothing about a security process, so advisories come from the CVE record rather than from the project. The recipe sets no CVE_VENDOR; the pair dropbear_ssh_project:dropbear_ssh was completed by hand from NVD's CPE dictionary, and its product name differs from the recipe name "dropbear", so searching for "dropbear" alone can miss it.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:dropbear_ssh_project:dropbear_ssh:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
