dpdk-module in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
dpdk-module
Notes on this component
This is the kernel-side module that comes with DPDK (the Data Plane Development Kit), the user-space packet-processing libraries used on network appliances; it is built from the DPDK source. The DPDK security page says vulnerabilities must not be reported through Bugzilla and follow the project's own process. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is data_plane_development_kit with no vendor, so findings are the same as for the dpdk recipe and a lookup matches on the product name alone. NVD also lists nvidia under this product name, 3 times against 97 for dpdk; the main vendor is used.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:dpdk:data_plane_development_kit:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
