dash in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
dash
Notes on this component
DASH (Debian Almquist Shell) is a small POSIX-compliant implementation of /bin/sh, faster than bash for most scripts, which some images use as their system shell. It runs whatever scripts the system hands it, so the risk lies in scripts that pass untrusted input to it. The project page says it descends from the NetBSD ash. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is dash:dash, so a lookup uses both names.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:dash:dash:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
