curl in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
curl
Notes on this component
curl is a command-line tool and the libcurl library for transferring data over many URL protocols. The project keeps a public vulnerability table in which every flaw has a CVE number, and publishes it as CSV and JSON. The recipe lists six CVE_PRODUCT names (haxx:curl, haxx:libcurl, curl:curl, curl:libcurl, libcurl:libcurl, daniel_stenberg:curl) for the one body of code, so a search for a single name can miss records filed under the others.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:haxx:curl:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
