bzip2 in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
bzip2
Notes on this component
bzip2 is a patent-free data compressor under a BSD-style licence; the current release on its page is 1.0.8. The page makes no statement about security, so findings come from CVE records. The recipe sets bzip:bzip2, where the vendor is "bzip" and the product is "bzip2".
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:bzip:bzip2:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
