busybox in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
busybox
Notes on this component
BusyBox combines hundreds of common Unix command-line tools and a shell into one small executable for embedded systems. The project page is about use and licensing rather than security, so vulnerability data comes from CVE records. The recipe sets no CVE_PRODUCT; busybox:busybox was entered by hand and matches NVD's name.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:busybox:busybox:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
