bridge-utils in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
bridge-utils
Notes on this component
bridge-utils provides the brctl command that creates and configures Ethernet bridges in the Linux kernel, joining several network interfaces into one segment. It is a configuration tool run by an administrator or a start-up script rather than a listening service, though the bridge it sets up carries network traffic. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is kernel bridge-utils, so a lookup uses vendor kernel and product bridge-utils.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:kernel:bridge-utils:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
