boost in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
boost
Notes on this component
Boost is a collection of peer-reviewed C++ libraries (containers, networking, regular expressions, serialization and more) that applications link against; nothing runs from it on its own. A finding applies only when the application uses the affected library, so the first question is which Boost libraries the code calls. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT pair is boost:boost, so a lookup uses both the vendor and the product name.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:boost:boost:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
