bolt in Yocto firmware: identifiers and CRA notes
·
What it is
bolt
Notes on this component
bolt is the system daemon that manages Thunderbolt 3 device authorisation, deciding whether a plugged-in device may connect to the PCIe bus. It matters only on hardware with Thunderbolt ports, and its attack surface is the local D-Bus interface and the devices it is asked to authorise. The recipe's CVE_PRODUCT is freedesktop bolt, so a lookup uses vendor freedesktop and product bolt.
Where it hides in a firmware SBOM
Yocto lists it by recipe name. Vulnerability databases file the same code under a vendor:product pair taken from the recipe's CVE_PRODUCT, so the two names often differ.
The identifiers we assign
cpe:2.3:a:freedesktop:bolt:{version}:*:*:*:*:*:*:*
{version} is filled in from your build. The version is the recipe version in your image.
The SBOM check adds these identifiers to a component your build listed without them.
Honest gaps
Vendor: freedesktop.
